Winter, stated plainly
Snow cover from roughly Thanksgiving into late March. January mornings below zero. A real budget line for heating and plowing. And (this is the part transplants don't expect) it's also the season locals love most, because everything freezes into a playground: ice roads, ski trails, fish houses.
